A little more about me

So who is this Jo Raine person anyway?

I'm 40 years old and, apart from a brief sojourn in Newcastle whilst I was a student, have lived in Hartlepool all my life. I have always been vaguely interested in my family's history, but only became serious about researching it around 7 years ago. So far I have seriously tackled the RAINE family (my father's paternal line)and the CARR and HARRISON lines (my mother's paternal and maternal lines). I have also started looking seriously at the REEVE [who were John REEVE's parents?], WESTON, KNOWLES, OLLEY, EMMERSON and LANGLEY [brick wall showing signs of collapsing] lines and just begun looking at HILL and FORTUNE.

The picture above is one of my favourites (though my mother hates it). I'm about 18 months old here and have just been dragged out of the coal hole, where I'd been 'playing'.

I currently work for the University of Teesside in Middlesbrough as Planning Manager. Before that I worked for Tees Valley Training & Enterprise Council [RIP] for eight years.

I am also a keen writer, principally of science fiction, fantasy and horror, and a big fan of 'cult' sf programmes such as X Files, Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Angel, Farscape, Stargate, Millennium and the 'classics' Dr Who, Blakes Seven, Space 1999 and the Star Trek franchises.

I have two younger brothers, Tim and Dan and have a nephew and niece and two step-nephews.

The loves of my life are my partner, Elizabeth and four cats who let me share the house with them - Kheira, the matriarch who's an old lady [and occassional psychopath] of twelve, siblings Tallis (the only tom and a real sweetie) and Hobbit, and the 'baby'of the family though she's the biggest of the four, Rocky, or Sirocco for Sunday Best - though I firmly believe if they ever figure out how to use ring pulls on cans, I'll be out the door the same day. I know my place - definitely 5th in the pecking order!
