An .xls file of RAINE RAYNE RAIN RAYNES RAINES that I have found in my travels. Contains approx 11,600 individuals and is updated regularly. note: This is a big file and takes about 3-4 minutes to download to your computer. Updated 10 Oct 2004.

Local History Information

Information on local history of the North East, particularly relating to the events surrounding the 1569 Rising of the North. Also items from the 1891 magazine North Country lore and legends.

Free BMD

Birth, marriages and death records from the St Catherine's Index. Worth keeping an eye on and revisiting at regular intervals to see what is new. Note, this site relies on contributions from volunteer transcribers and if you have a spare couple of hours a week is a good cause to get involved in. Give a little back to the genealogical community!

A good starting point. User-friendly with (too-easy) searching. Very easy to get info-overload and an awful lot of red-herrings!
